Nutrition Verified ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy explains how we collect, use, store, disclose and protect personal information when you use nutritionverified.com, nutritionverified.info or any related Nutrition Verified service.

1. About Us

Nutrition Verified is an independent food information verification platform based in Queensland, Australia. We verify what food producers declare about their products against published standards. We are not a certification body and do not provide medical, dietary or financial advice.

2. What We Collect

We only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for our functions and activities. The categories of personal information we may collect include:

- Contact details: name, business name, email address, phone number, postal address, when you apply to become a verified partner, request information, or contact us.
- Account and engagement data: submissions, communications, photographs of product packaging, on-pack claims, and supporting documents you send us during the verification process.
- Producer business information: supply chain details, production practices, ingredient sourcing, certifications, nutritional data, and other information required to verify product claims. Where this includes personal information of individuals, we treat it under this policy.
- Technical information: when you visit our website, our hosting providers (including Shopify) automatically log IP address, browser type, device type, referring URL, pages viewed, and similar standard analytics.
- Newsletter and review feedback: if you subscribe, leave a review, or send us a message via our forms or social channels.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. We do not collect sensitive information (as defined in the Privacy Act) unless you provide it voluntarily and it is necessary for the verification or service we are providing.

3. How We Collect It

We collect personal information directly from you whenever possible, through our website forms, email correspondence, verification questionnaires, phone calls, social media, and in-person meetings. We may also receive it from public sources such as regulatory registers (e.g. ABN Lookup, FSANZ), certification bodies, and from referrals.

4. Why We Collect It

We use personal information for the following purposes:

- Conducting the NV 1.0 verification process for producer applicants.
- Publishing verified producer profiles, ingredient declarations, and nutritional information on our platform.
- Responding to your enquiries, complaints, or feedback.
- Managing our relationships with verified partners and applicants.
- Sending you updates about Nutrition Verified, but only if you have opted in.
- Improving our website, content, and verification standards.
- Complying with legal obligations, regulatory requests, or court orders.

5. Who We Share It With

We do not sell personal information. We may disclose it to:

- Service providers we use to operate Nutrition Verified, including Shopify (web hosting), Google Workspace (email, documents), and similar trusted platforms.
- Verified producers, where the information you share is directly related to a partner you are corresponding with.
- Regulators or law enforcement where required by Australian law or to respond to a valid legal request.
- Professional advisers such as our solicitors, accountants, or auditors, where reasonably necessary.

Some of our service providers (including Shopify and Google) store data on servers located outside Australia, primarily in the United States and the European Union. We take reasonable steps to ensure these providers handle personal information consistently with the APPs.

6. How We Store and Protect It

We store personal information in secure cloud platforms (Shopify, Google Workspace) with industry-standard access controls, two-factor authentication, and encryption in transit. Physical documents, where they exist, are stored securely. We restrict internal access to personal information to those who reasonably need it.

If we no longer need personal information for the purpose we collected it, and we are not legally required to keep it, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.

No internet-based system is 100% secure. While we take reasonable precautions, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Cookies and Analytics

Our website (hosted on Shopify) uses cookies and similar technologies for essential functions, performance analytics, and visitor measurement. You can configure your browser to refuse cookies, though some features of the site may not function correctly as a result.

We may use aggregated analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or Shopify's built-in analytics. These collect non-identifying technical data to help us understand site usage.

8. Accessing and Correcting Your Information

You have a right under the Privacy Act to request access to the personal information we hold about you, and to request that we correct it if it is inaccurate, out-of-date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading.

To request access or correction, email isaac@nutritionverified.com. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe (typically within 30 days). There is no charge to access your personal information.

9. Complaints

If you believe we have breached the APPs or mishandled your personal information, please contact us first at isaac@nutritionverified.com. We will investigate and respond within 30 days.

10. Data Breaches

If we become aware of an eligible data breach as defined in the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, we will notify affected individuals and the OAIC as required by law.

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available on our website, with the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of Nutrition Verified after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
